The Foundery Opens at City Garage in Port Covington (Photo Tour)

Today, The Foundery, a 20,000 sq. ft. maker space at City Garage in Port Covington, cut the ribbon on its new facility. It wasn’t your typical ribbon cutting, however, as a programmed chop saw cut a metal ribbon in front of attendees including state and city officials, as well as members of the Baltimore maker community. The Foundery, which was established in 2013, relocated from a 2,000 sq. ft. space on Central Ave. near Fells Point. It has partnered with Sagamore Ventures on its new location.

The Foundery offers daily and monthly memberships with access to tools such as 3D printers, scanners, routers, plasma cutters, drop saws, grinders, mills, drills, sanders, and more. It also offers events and classes such as Welding 101, Aluminum Brazing, and Introduction to Microcontrollers. Along with Sagamore Ventures, partners at The Foundery include Stanley Black & Decker, Dell, Lockheed Martin, Earlbeck Gases & Technologies, and Orange Element.

Executive Director Jason Hardebeck joked that a maker space is just a hipster term for a garage and that many great companies, such as Hewlett Packard, started out of a garage. He hopes many great inventions will be created at The Foundery and said he loves hanging out with the other innovative companies at City Garage which include Bustin Boards, CWIST, Social Leagues, and Tapologie.

City Garage is fully leased and the remaining tenants will be announced in the near future according to Demian Costa of Sagamore Ventures.
