VaporFi to Open a Location at Southside Marketplace

| December 13, 2017 | 0 Comments

VaporFi Southside is under construction on a new vape shop at 853 E. Fort Ave. at Southside Marketplace in Riverside/Locust Point. The shop, which is a franchise of Miami-based VaporFi, will replace the former Subway, which relocated within the shopping center in 2015.

VaporFi Southside is owned by Michael Mwamba and Jennifer Piera. The longtime friends spent the last year looking all over Maryland for the “perfect place with the right vibe.” They chose the South Baltimore location because they like the “rebirth” going on in South Baltimore, the cosmopolitan energy around Federal Hill, and the historical significance of the area. They thanked Jose Santana of the Seagall Group for his help in finding the location.

Piera is a native of Severna Park and wrote a college thesis on the Federal Hill neighborhood. Mwamba is from Montgomery County.

Mwamba and Piera were drawn to VaporFi because, in their opinion, the shop is completely different from the stereotype of vaping, which they noted as being dark, dingy, and having similarities to a head shop. They said VaporFi will have the feel of an Apple store and will be “clean, open, and bright.” The build-out is being done by Urban Built.

“It’s fresh, it’s fruit-forward, and it’s kind of like a snow cone shop for adults,” said Piera. Customers can come in and sample flavors and mix their own combinations. They called it an “interactive retail experience.”

VaporFi sells its own juices and equipment which are made at its factory in Naples, Florida. There are more than 30,000 flavor combinations that range from menthol to fruit to bubble gum.

VaporFi Southside recently began a complete renovation of the space and is hoping to open in early February. It will hire three employees.

VaporFi has more than 70 locations in the United States. This is the first location in Maryland.
