Fat Larry’s Opens

Fat Larry’s has opened its doors at 1026 S. Charles St. at the former home of Corks.  They are open daily starting at 11am and will stay open late on Fridays and Saturdays.  They offer a five-mile radius for delivery as well as carry-out, dine-in and BYOB.  The menu features a variety of cheesesteaks, hoagies, sides and wings.

Moon Gallery Framing Opens in Pigtown

It appears a new framing store has come to Pigtown.  There is a nice new awning that reads Moon Gallery Framing on the corner of Hamburg St. at 815 Scott St. in Pigtown at the former home of Tri-Churches Housing, Inc.

Lime to Become Midtown Athletic Club

A couple weeks ago SouthBMore.com reported that the former Lime at 801 E. Fort Ave. has been purchased.  The liquor license was reactivated under the name of Midtown Athletic Club on September 13th.  It appears the new owners have been performing interior renovations and we’ll keep an eye on when Midtown Athletic Club will be opening and what their menu might look like.

Orioles Merchandise Skyrocketing in Sales

Thanks to a post from Baltimore Sports Report, SouthBMore.com was directed to a Darren Rovell article on ESPN.com that discussed the Orioles huge boost in merchandise sales thanks to their success on the field and a return to the cartoon bird.  Online retailer Fanatics.com said that only the Yankees and Giants have sold more merchandise in September and the Orioles cap is the 7th most popular cap sold this season by New Era, the official cap maker of MLB.  Cap sales are up 102% from last year. From the article:

Greg Bader (Orioles Director of Communications) said so many people are now wearing the team’s apparel that “you can’t go a few feet in downtown without seeing Orioles gear.”

That became a problem for a person filming a documentary in Ocean City, Md., about 120 miles from Baltimore. The movie had nothing to do with the Orioles, but there was so much Orioles signage that found its way into the shooting that he felt compelled to call Major League Baseball and ask for permission to use the trademark, Bader said.

Baltimore Hockey Classic Cancelled

Unfortunately because of the NHL lockout the Baltimore Hockey Classic at First Mariner Arena on September 26th featuring the Washington Capitals and the Columbus Blue Jackets has been cancelled.  Bummer!  Here is a release from the Capitals:

ARLINGTON, Va. –  The National Hockey League announced today the cancellation of all September pre-season games. Therefore, three Washington Capitals preseason games were canceled, including the Baltimore Hockey Classic scheduled for Sept. 26 at 1st Mariner Arena in Baltimore versus the Columbus Blue Jackets. Per the Capitals’ and Ticketmaster’s refund policy, customers who purchased single-game tickets to events that are cancelled will receive a full refund.

Last year’s inaugural Baltimore Hockey Classic, against the Nashville Predators, was a tremendous success as the teams played in front of a sellout crowd of 11,082 fans who witnessed the first professional hockey game played in Baltimore since 1997. The Capitals organization was overwhelmed with the support from the city of Baltimore and our fans in Maryland, and we look forward to bringing this event back to the city in the near future.
