Parking-PandaSoBo Businesses Honored in ’15 Best Startups’

Business Insider compiled a list of the ‘15 Best Startups to Work for In America,’ and two businesses with deep South Baltimore ties were honored on this list. The first was Groove Commerce, a creative digital agency with a focus on eCommerce, web design, inbound marketing, and branding, which was founded in South Baltimore by local resident Ethan Griffin. The business recently moved into a new office in Harbor East/Little Italy.

The other is Parking Panda, a company that helps consumers find, reserve and pay for parking from their computer or mobile phone. Parking Panda is headquartered at 1121 Marshall St. in Federal Hill.

Federal Hill Mortgage Moves to Light St. 

In April, reported on the renovation of five buildings in the Federal Hill Business District at 916-924 Light St. The ten apartments were updated, as well as two retail spaces, to go along with the existing Zeeba Lounge. The first new tenant in these properties will be Federal Hill Mortgage at 924 Light St. The company, currently located at 1021 Patapsco Ave., will take the space once occupied by Temps Now.

The other retail spot at 920 Light St. was very briefly the home of Alozio Hair.

photoNew Tenants for the UM BioPark

The good news continues for the UM BioPark as they are now putting the finishing touches on their new Proton Treatment Center. They have also already signed tenants for a soon-to-be constructed office building at 873 W. Baltimore St. Baltimore is reporting that the Catholic Health Initiatives Center for Translational Research (CTR) will by moving from St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Baltimore County to an 11,000 square foot lease on the BioPark campus.

From a CTR statement:

“While performing our due diligence as a national organization, we looked at locations throughout Maryland and in other parts of the country, including Northern and Southern California,” said Jeffrey M. Otto, National Director, CTR. “The UM BioPark offered the best options for us in terms of amenities, location, design and facilities. We’re pleased to be able to grow our organization and to offer critical services for biomedical researchers from our operational base in Baltimore.”

Trinacria has been serving up Italian goods in Downtown Baltimore for 115 years and now their location at 406 N. Paca Street is a bit more noticeable. They have added a new awning, as well as outdoor seating so you can enjoy one of their great sandwiches, soups or desserts right on location.

CrossFit Federal Hill Expands

CrossFit Federal Hill opened at 1220 Key Hwy. in December of last year and is already expanding. Their new renovation will increase the space to 10,000 square feet and will be completed by the end of this week.
