Daniel Mckelvey, who has been juicing for several years, is excited to finally open his own store in his new hometown of Baltimore, MD. Mckelvey and his girlfriend Sarah Quinn recently opened Pure Raw Juice at 1401 Riverside Ave. in Federal Hill at the former site of Riveside Café and a longtime ice cream shop.

Mckelvey, a central New York native who worked for years in the casino industry, became a big fan of juicing while living in Las Vegas. He later began to make creations at home for himself and his friends, which eventually led to people starting to come to him for juicing cleanses. The casino industry moved Mckelvey to Delaware and then to Maryland, at which time he began to set his sights on finding his own store to share his love for juicing and healthy and natural foods. Mckelvey and Quinn worked with a realtor and eventually found the right space at 1401 Riverside Ave. in Federal Hill. “We knew Federal Hill was a great, health conscious area,” said Mckelvey.

After having the space under renovation since July, Pure Raw Juice had a soft opening last weekend and is now open full time. The space has been completely renovated and features a small bar, to-go refrigerator, and preparation area.

Everything served at Pure Raw Juice is all-natural, organic, vegan-friendly, and gluten- and dairy-free using locally grown foods. It offers juice blends, raw mylks made of almonds and cashews, cold brewed coffees, fruit smoothies, green smoothies, protein smoothies, hot drinks and teas, power shots, acai bowls, and oatmeal bowls. Super food boosts can also be added to any bowl or smoothie. Pure Raw Juice will also be offering salads as well as non-dairy ice cream when the weather warms up.

Mckelvey told SouthBMore.com that Pure Raw Juice’s cold brewed coffee is 70% less acidic than regularly brewed coffee and the juices are cold pressed, which “maintains the integrity of the produce while preserving the enzymes and micro and macro nutrients stored in the fibers of the produce.” Pure Raw Juice will also be offering one- to three-day juice cleanses to customers.

Mckelvey is not only hoping to serve healthy foods and drinks, but is also hoping his customers will learn more about nutrition when they come in. Pure Raw Juice will be playing health documentaries on the television and Mckelvey is always interested in talking about healthy diets with his customers.

Pure Raw Juice will be open everyday but Tuesday from 7am-9pm.
