Kevin Plank Steps Down from American Manufacturing Council
Under Armour Founder and CEO Kevin Plank has stepped down from President Donald J. Trump’s American Manufacturing Council. Plank released the following statement:
“I joined the American Manufacturing Council because I believed it was important for Under Armour to have an active seat at the table and represent our industry. We remain resolute in our potential and ability to improve American manufacturing. However, Under Armour engages in innovation and sports, not politics.
I am appreciative of the opportunity to have served, but have decided to step down from the council. I love our country and our company and will continue to focus my efforts on inspiring every person that they can do anything through the power of sport which promotes unity, diversity and inclusion.”
Under Armour is currently undergoing a restructuring plan that includes laying off 280 employees, as well as constructing a new 50-acre campus at Port Covington.
Plank is also the owner of Plank Industries. This umbrella of brands includes:
- Sagamore Development, which is leading a 266-acre, $5.5 billion redevelopment of Port Covington, and which redeveloped the Sagamore Pendry in Fells Point
- Sagamore Spirit, which recently opened a rye whiskey distillery in Port Covington and will soon open Rye Street Tavern
- Sagamore Ventures, Plank’s venture capital arm that invests in local manufacturing companies and owns Baltimore Water Taxi
- City Garage, a 133,000 sq. ft. facility described as “a hub for manufacturing, innovation and entrepreneurship” in Port Covington
- Sagamore Racing, which includes the Sagamore Farm, a farm with thoroughbred horses, and The Cupid Foundation charity.
