Under Armour Now the Official Outfitter of Johns Hopkins University Athletics

Johns Hopkins University Athletics Release: 

BATLIMORE, MD – Johns Hopkins Director of Athletics Alanna Shanahan announced today that the University has partnered with Under Armour (NYSE: UA, UAA), naming the Baltimore-based global performance brand the official outfitter of Blue Jay athletics.

Under the terms of the multi-year agreement, which commenced July 1, 2017, Under Armour will provide uniforms, training footwear, apparel and equipment for all of Johns Hopkins varsity teams. The agreement also includes a comprehensive brand association between Under Armour and Johns Hopkins through various on-site, print and digital opportunities.

The Johns Hopkins athletic program features 24 varsity teams. The Blue Jay men’s and women’s lacrosse teams compete at the Division I level with both holding sport affiliate membership in the Big Ten. Johns Hopkins’ other 22 athletic teams compete at the Division III level with most holding membership in the Centennial Conference.

The overall athletic program at Johns Hopkins is one of the most successful in the nation. Johns Hopkins recently finished fifth in the 2016-17 Learfield Directors’ Cup standings and has placed in the top 10 six times in the last seven years. Highlights among Blue Jay teams include:

• Nine NCAA Championships in men’s lacrosse and a national-best 45 NCAA Tournament appearances.
• Three trips to the NCAA Tournament in women’s lacrosse in the last four years and six appearances in the tournament since the program transitioned to Division I.
• Four NCAA Championships in the last five years for women’s cross country and five straight finishes in the top four at the NCAAs.
• Seven NCAA Playoff appearances in football in the last eight years with one trip to the quarterfinals and four other appearances in the second round during that time.
• A combined 20 NCAA Tournament appearances in men’s and women’s basketball.
• 27 top-five finishes at the NCAA Championships for men’s swimming and 21 top-10 finishes in women’s swimming.
• 22 NCAA Tournament appearances and three trips to the College World Series in baseball. • Men’s & women’s soccer have a combined 29 trips to the NCAA Tournament and have advanced to at least the Sweet 16 in 16 of those 29 appearances.

The well-documented success of Johns Hopkins student-athletics is not contained to the fields, courts and pool. Johns Hopkins ranks 12th among all schools in all divisions with more than 140 all-time CoSIDA Academic All-Americans and is also among the national leaders with 44 all-time NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship recipients. In the recently-completed spring semester, Johns Hopkins’ nearly 700 student-athletes combined to post a 3.45 grade point with 31 athletes posting a perfect 4.0 GPA.

Johns Hopkins University joins the growing roster of Under Armour NCAA partnerships which include Baltimore-based institutions such as Towson University and Loyola University in addition to the University of Maryland, College Park, University of Maryland, Baltimore County, Howard University and the United States Naval Academy. The brand also has long-term partnerships with UCLA, University of California, Berkeley, University of Notre Dame, University of South Carolina, University of Wisconsin, Auburn University, Boston College, Texas Tech and more.
