Heavy Seas Beer, which got its start 23 years ago at the current site of Ryleigh’s Oyster on Cross St. in Federal Hill, revealed plans today for a large expansion and renovation of its tap room at its production brewery at 4615 Hollins Ferry Rd. in Halethorpe in South Baltimore County. Heavy Seas is now one of the largest beer producers in Maryland and distributes to 20 states and Washington, D.C.

The new space, which is now under construction, will be seven times larger than the current space and will feature a private events room. It will also include a new a 15 BBL small-batch brewhouse so patrons can taste limited edition, experimental beers from Heavy Seas. The first new beer releases will be available next month. Heavy Seas currently has 23 different styles of beer.

Heavy Seas describes the new tap room design as “a sleek, modern destination that embodies the Heavy Seas brand.” It is working with local craftsmen on reclaimed wood tables for the tap room and local designers for imagery in the space.

The tap room is expanding into a warehouse space that was previously used for shipping and receiving. The expansion is expected to be completed in June 2019. Heavy Seas will remain open during construction and offer weekend brewery tours.

“With these renovations, our new guests, along with loyal customers, will now be able to enjoy their beer in a much larger, livelier setting that truly represents Heavy Seas,” said Sarah West, director of marketing and hospitality at Heavy Seas, in a press release. “Craft beer enthusiasts from all over will be able to visit and sample award-winning favorites like Loose Cannon as well as new, limited-edition beers from the small-batch brewhouse. There will always be something new to try.”
