Waterfront Outdoor Bar and Event Space ‘South Point’ Opening at West Covington Park in Port Covington
The Port Covington Development Team today announced it will open a new waterfront seasonal venue called South Point at West Covington Park in Port Covington. South Point is located at 101 W. Cromwell St. at the western section of the park overlooking the Middle Branch and Vietnam Veterans Memorial Bridge.
South Point will be operated by Weller Entertainment, a company launched by Port Covington developer Weller Development. South Point will begin events on July 26th and will host its grand opening on July 28th. It will be open from 5 pm to 11 pm weekly on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. West Covington Park is open every day from dawn until dusk.
South Point features a new gravel surface within the grass of West Covington Park; large picnic tables, many of which are shaded; and the restaurant equipment and structures of the venue, which are comprised of painted and renovated old buses, truck, and reused shipping containers.
South Point customers will be able to use the large adjacent City Garage parking lot. West Covington Park is also along a new pedestrian and cycle path that connects to the South Baltimore Peninsula neighborhood.
South Point will offer a menu by local chef Patrick Morrow that is focused on “open-air South American barbecue cuisine” as well as fare from a rotating group of local food trucks and vendors. South Point will also serve alcoholic beverages and host Friday and Saturday happy hours.
South Point will offer music and outdoor games including corn hole and ping pong. Weller Entertainment said it will be family and pet friendly.
The venue will be available for rent Sunday through Wednesday for private corporate functions and retreats.
Every Thursday, South Point will host Waterfront Wellness. Led by Baltimore-based FX Well, the series includes FLOW Yoga and Total Body Bootcamp, two classes focused on fitness for all levels. The bootcamp will utilize onsite fitness equipment recently installed by the Port Covington Development Team, a portion of the Port Covington bike path, and the open greenspaces along the waterfront. Following classes will be The Paleo Party featuring healthy grill specials, cocktails, and music.
The event series kickoff for Waterfront Wellness on July 26th is free with advance registration. For Thursday classes in August, tickets will be $10 and include class and a sponsor beverage from Wild Kombucha, Dogfish Head Brewery, or Ava Grace Vineyards.
“West Covington Park, with its amazing waterfront view, is one of the most beautiful slices of open space in the city,” said Marc Weller, partner of Weller Development Company, the lead developer of Port Covington, in a press release. “We’re thrilled to activate South Point and create a place for people to come and enjoy great music, food, drink and company.”
Weller Development previously held events at The Field adjacent to Sun Park at Port Covington. Events included concerts by Matisyahu and Talib Kweli, and Maryland SPCA’s March for the Animals.
