Canton-based Contracting Company Relocating to Fairfield to Make Way for Eight-Story Apartment Building

Canton’s Halcon Contractors will be relocating to 1300 Chesapeake Ave. in Fairfield Industrial Area. Halcon provides traffic control staffing and equipment for street work, utility replacement, and bridge repair.

Halcon’s new property has a 3,000 sq. ft. drive-thru maintenance building with an acre of outside storage. It was renovated in recent years by the previous owner. Halcon worked with Jim Chivers and Mitch Gold of Gold and Company for more than a year before finding the new home. The purchase price was $600,000.

Halcon needed to move from its longtime home in Canton at 1314 Baylis St., which also faces Boston St., to make way for a new eight-story, 244-unit apartment building by WorkShop Development. The immediate area has seen a lot of mixed-use development in recent years with its close proximity to Canton Crossing and Brewers Hill.

This move continues a trend of industrial companies in Baltimore relocating from growing residential neighborhoods and taking operations to heavier industrial areas of the city.

“There continues to be a lot of redevelopment in areas like Canton and South Baltimore – areas that were once heavy industrial,” said Chivers. “It is great for Baltimore City to see these pockets developed into Class A office space, apartments, and similar uses. Baltimore overall is still a heavy industrial area and there are designated industrial areas that companies can relocate to and usually benefit from because of easy access to the highways, tax incentive zones, and more effective layouts.”
