Maryland Governor Larry Hogan has signed an executive order stating that all bars, restaurants, movie theaters, and gyms must close by 5pm today due to the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19). Drive-thru, carryout, and food delivery services can continue operations.

Based on CDC recommendations, Governor Hogan is also prohibiting any gathering of more than 50 people. This includes social, religious, and sports activities.

These restrictions will be enforced “with the full force of the law” by Maryland State Troopers.

Yesterday, Governor Hogan announced an executive order to close all Maryland casinos, racetracks, and simulcast betting facilities. Horseshoe Casino Baltimore closed last night at 10pm.

Governor Hogan also said in his Monday press conference that grocery stores, food delivery, pharmacies, gas stations, and banks need to remain open.

“It is impossible to know how long this threat will continue,” said Governor Hogan in his press conference. “What I do know is that we cannot afford to wait to take actions. While these measure may seem extreme, if we do not take them now it could be too late. I will make whatever decisions and take whatever actions are necessary to save the lives of thousands of Marylanders and to protect our way of life itself.”

There are currently 37 cases of the coronavirus in Maryland.
