Port Covington Outdoor Bar ‘South Point’ Not Planning to Open this Year

As the COVID-19 pandemic has brought the event industry to a halt, Port Covington’s seasonal outdoor bar South Point at West Covington Park is not planning on opening this year. South Point, which first opened in 2018 and operates during warmer months, added a tent for private and public events last year.

South Point is run by Weller Entertainment, a marketing, events, and production company launched by Weller Development Company. Weller Development is leading the development and construction of the 235-acre, $5.5-billion Port Covington development which is owned by The Port Covington Development Team.

A spokesperson for the company told SouthBMore.com: “Since this is a group facility, there are no plans at this time to reopen it this year.”

Maryland Governor Larry Hogan has not yet allowed Maryland restaurants or bars to be open other than for carryout food and drinks. Some states, including neighboring Virginia, have allowed bars and restaurants to open for outdoor service.

West Covington Park, which is owned by The Port Covington Development Team, is currently open to the public. It includes paths and green spaces, as well as beach volleyball courts which are currently not set up.
