Demolition Begins in Preparation for a 950-Unit ‘Beyond Self Storage’ Facility in Carroll-Camden

Demolition of a collection of properties on the 1500 block of Ridgely St. in Carroll-Camden Industrial Area began in recent weeks to make way for a 950-unit Beyond Self Storage facility. According to a Baltimore City Department of Works Application for Redevelopment Waiver, the project has an approximate area of 1.14 acres and is bounded by Worcester St. to the north, Denver St. to the east, Ridgely St. to the west, and an existing commercial use property to the south.

The Beyond Self Storage project is being developed by North Point Development, a company based in Riverside, Missouri. Baltimore Business Journal is reporting the self storage building will be 121,000 sq. ft.

The development site was formerly made up of a one-story industrial building with loading docks, a two-story industrial building, and four rowhomes. It is adjacent to Len The Plumber’s headquarters to the west, J&F Awning Co. to the south, Royal Farms and Citgo gas stations to the east, and an U-STORE self storage facility to the north.

Beyond Self Storage will add to a growing number of new self storage facilities in South Baltimore. These include Store It All Self Storage in Pigtown, which opened this summer; CubeSmart, which opened at the end of 2018 in Carroll-Camden; and an ExtraSpace Storage facility, which recently began construction in the South Baltimore neighborhood.
