Watefront Partnership press release:

The Inner Harbor Ice Rink operated by Waterfront Partnership will not return to the top of the Inner Harbor amphitheater for the 2020-2021 winter season due to the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and public health safety concerns.

“We hope to bring the ice rink back for a seventh season next winter, but only if we can do it in a way that is safe for the public,” said Laurie Schwartz, president of the Waterfront Partnership. “Our decisions this year on hosting events and bringing back amenities like the ice rink have all been made within the context of public health safety. We are looking forward to the time when we can welcome families back to skate with the beautiful backdrop of the Inner Harbor.”

The Inner Harbor Ice Rink has become a Baltimore winter tradition having welcomed more than 65,000 visitors over the past six seasons and played host to several events including SkateFest benefiting the Special Olympics of Maryland, Skate with Santa, Superhero and Princess Skates, as well as local school groups, marriage proposals, various group rentals, and celebrity appearances.

Despite the pandemic upending live events and large gatherings, Waterfront Partnership has continued to deliver on its mission of creating and managing a world-class destination at Baltimore’s Waterfront. The organization offered a shortened and more intimate Waterfront Wellness season this past summer and continued its Inner Harbor Kayak Tour program in partnership with Baltimore City Department of Recreation & Parks. It also introduced Waterfront Walks, a new series of themed and self-guided walking tours around the waterfront promenade. The Native Plant Gardens walk, announced this summer, introduces visitors to diverse plants that benefit wildlife among other things. Guests use signage and an interactive map available on Waterfront Partnership’s website to guide them.
