CBD Shop ‘Charm City Hemp’ Opens on Light Street in Federal Hill

CBD shop Charm City Hemp opened this month at 1205 Light St. in Federal Hill. The approximately 2,000 sq. ft. retail space is the former home of Federal Hill Natural Market, which closed last year.

This is the third location for Charm City Hemp, which also has stores in Belvedere Square and Hampden. The business was started by husband and wife Buck DeVan and Melissa Cox along with Randy Shayotovich.

DeVan has worked in the natural products industry for the past 15 years and wanted to open a natural product store that helps people with health conditions. He said it’s a “West Coast-style CBD and hemp boutique” and not a head shop or smoke shop.

Charm City Hemp’s products are made for the company from a manufacturer in Colorado, but the team is looking to switch to local suppliers in the future. The shop sells CBD oils and tinctures, gummies, vapes and diffusers, soft gels, bath bombs, soaps, hemp flower, pre-rolled CBD hemp joints, and CBD products for pets.

Charm City Hemp is open Sunday to Thursday from 11am to 7pm and Friday and Saturday from 11am to 9pm. The company has 10 employees.

DeVan said he was interested in expanding to Federal Hill because it’s one of his favorite neighborhoods and it has a lot of younger people.

With more shops that sell CBD starting to open in Federal Hill, DeVan said Charm City Hemp offers a “boutique setting with a nice retail environment” and that patrons “can come in and talk to an educated staff member.” He said many of the other options in Federal Hill are smoke shops that also sell CBD.

A store called Holistic Smoke Depot opened two doors down at 1201 Light St.

DeVan said sales were able to grow during the COVID-19 pandemic and the company is looking at opening additional locations in Timonium and Downtown Frederick.
