New Year’s Eve Fireworks Not Taking Place in Baltimore

Office of Baltimore City Mayor Brandon M. Scott press release:

The City of Baltimore has decided not to host the New Year’s Eve Spectacular this year. Deputy Mayor for Community and Economic Development Ted Carter explains, “As much as we would like to kick off the New Year with a fireworks celebration, after reviewing the logistics, costs, and other considerations given our recent Labor Day fireworks event, the City has decided not to proceed with fireworks this New Year. We are planning on returning to a more predictable, traditional schedule in 2022 as we continue to emerge from COVID-19 and resume normal event planning.” Hosted by the Mayor Brandon Scott and City of Baltimore, this annual event brings together revelers to the Baltimore Inner Harbor to ring in the new year by the light of a dazzling fireworks display. BOPA, serving as the event producer for Baltimore City, acknowledges and supports the Mayor’s Office and the City of Baltimore’s difficult decision.

However, Baltimore’s Inner Harbor and downtown are hosting many events throughout the holiday season. The Baltimore Inner Harbor Ice Rink produced by the Waterfront Partnership of Baltimore is located by the amphitheater between the Harborplace pavilions. This holiday tradition offers family-friendly skating seven days a week. Visit the Inner Harbor Ice Rink web page for hours, individual tickets, and season passes.

Additionally, the Downtown Partnership of Baltimore presents Candy Lane at Center Plaza. Candy Lane is a larger-than-life candy-themed experience with installations, thousands of lights, and seasonal entertainment. Candy lane is open to the public from 5:00–9:00 p.m., Wednesday through Sunday, until Thursday, December 23, 2021. The Downtown Partnership is also gearing up for the annual lighting of the historic Washington Monument in Mount Vernon on Thursday, December 2, from 5:00–8:00 p.m. at Mount Vernon Place. The night includes caroling, food and good cheer. Fireworks cap the evening marking the official start of the holiday season. Another event at the Baltimore Inner Harbor this holiday season is the Christmas Village at West Shore Park. The Christmas Village in Baltimore is a combination of an outdoor & indoor holiday market. The event is modeled after the traditional Christmas markets in Germany, like the famous Christkindl Market in Nuremberg. The Christmas Village is open daily from 11:00 a.m.–7:00 p.m. running through Friday, December 24, 2021. Go to baltimore-christmas.com for more information about the vendors, activities, and tastings at the Christmas Village this year.
