Reflex Functional Fitness To Relocate to Silo Point in Locust Point

After 7 years at Southside Marketplace in Locust Point, Reflex Functional Fitness will be relocating within the neighborhood to Silo Point. Reflex takes over an approximately 2,800 sq. ft. space vacated by Prive Salon + Spa, which also relocated within Locust Point in recent month. Reflex will make the move on April 1st.

Reflex is owned by longtime South Baltimore trainer and former wrestler and mixed marital artist Reese Ashe and wife Amanda Ashe who is a triathlete and marathoner. Reese Ashe, Amanda Ashe and their team of trainers have been hosting group fitness classes and personal training sessions at Reflex since it opened. Classes include H.I.I.T., Sculpt, Stamina, Athletic Conditioning, and Strength & Conditioning.

The new space will be a little bit bigger and offer a new sauna and electric massage chair. Reese Ashe said he looked at a handful of different spaces to move his business to, but said Silo Point was the best fit. He likes going that Silo Poin is in more residential area and in a condo building and feels this will help his business reach people it wasn’t reaching before.

The space, which has concrete columns, large windows, and concrete ceilings, has a first-floor area for group fitness that will have black turf, and a mezzanine level with free weights upstairs. A build-out is currently underway to convert it from a salon to a gym. “I want to keep the industrial look, but give it a sexier feel,” said Reese Ashe.

Reflex will offer its normal lineup of classes and personal training at Silo Point, but will also look to add mom classes and kids classes as well.

Reese Ashe said the COVID-19 has been challenging for his business. “In 2020 we were on the edge of closing, in 2021 we started climbing out of it, and in 2022 I see a chance for growth.” He noted mask mandates have made it hard to keep his gym full and bring in new members. But he is thankful for a core group of members that have continued to support Reflex.

The Ashes are also opening a new yoga studio called The Yoga Collective at Hanover Cross Street in Sharp-Leadenhall. Reese Ashe said he noticed many Yoga classes moving outdoors after the closing of many studios around Baltimore. He saw an opportunity to hire some of the best yoga instructors in town that lost their jobs and bring them to one studio. The Yoga Collective will open in late spring.

“I want to rebuild confidence in the fitness industry,” said Reese Ashe, noting that so many have turned to home workouts like Peloton in recent years.
