MARC Train Heavy Maintenance Facility Under Construction in Riverside
Maryland Transit Administration is currently under construction on a heavy maintenance facility at the MARC Train yard in Riverside/Locust Point. The MARC property is located behind Southside Marketplace and The Foundry on Fort Ave.
Upon completion, the 35,000 sq. ft. facility “will enable MARC Train to perform its own locomotive and railcar maintenance, improve fleet reliability, and reduce overall maintenance costs and repair times,” according to a MARC press release.
The heavy maintenance facility replaces an one-story building that was demolished.
The steel frame recently topped out on the new building.
Clark Construction is the general contractor on the project.
The MARC Train yard in South Baltimore services and stores locomotives and cars from the Camden Line.
“For years, I have been urging leaders in Washington to take bipartisan action to rebuild, repair, and modernize America’s crumbling infrastructure in ways that will grow our economy, create jobs, and meet the needs of the 21st century, and here in Maryland, we have been leading by example for more than six years,” said Governor Larry Hogan in a press release from last year. “While the focus of our state and the nation shifted over the past year to the COVID-19 pandemic, it remains a critical time for us to continue our focus on the importance of investing in infrastructure in order to rebuild our economy, to create jobs, and to ensure a sustainable future.”
