Capacity Fitness Expands in Locust Point

Capacity Fitness has more than quadrupled the size of its gym at 1000 Key Hwy. East in Locust Point. The H.I.I.T. and functional fitness gym led by personal trainer Hugh Green has expanded into two additional garage bays in its warehouse building, which was once part of Egan Marine Contracting Co. and later Weller Development Company.

Capacity Fitness, which spent its first 15 months of operation in one 700 sq. ft. garage space, now totals about 3,000 sq. ft. The expansion was completed on January 1st.

One of the new garages in Capacity Fitness’ footprint was vacant and one was used by a plumbing company. Capacity Fitness and Body in Rhythm Training now occupy the entire building.

With the expansion, Capacity Fitness has added a dedicated personal training area; added additional weights, bikes, and rowers; and tripled its workout floor for group classes. Capacity Fitness is partnering with Body in Rhythm to get plumbing lines installed so interior bathrooms can be added. Green said he hopes this process will take place in late spring.

Green said he and Body in Rhythm owner Matt Swiger get along really well and they jokingly call the area “fitness row.” Both gyms open up their garage doors and use the parking lot on property for indoor/outdoor workouts.

Green said business has been really good. He has seen growth in its key areas of personal training, group classes, nutritional training, and mindset coaching.

Capacity Fitness now has five fitness coaches.
