Mixed-Use Development Planned for Hollins Street in Hollins Market

Development firm SAA/EVI is planning a mixed-use development on the 1200 block of Hollins St. in Hollins Market. The property is comprised of a vacant lot and a 1940 art deco garage at the corner of Hollins St. and S. Carey St.

SAA/EVI recently acquired the properties from War Horse Cities which was planning to build new townhomes on the vacant lot, but the project never moved forward.

The site also borders the Union Square neighborhood.

SAA/EVI Co-managing Member Ernst Valery, who also launched the Aqueo Fund that underwrites women and minority developers, said he is working with a senior architecture studio at Cornell University and landscape architects at the University of Maryland to come up with a vision for the project.

“It will be an amazing mixed-use project project that will hopefully preserve the history of the art deco garage,” said Valery.

The Aqueo Fund is supporting a three-townhome project by In Habit on the 1100 block of Hollins St. in Hollins Market. It also has 40 projects in the pipeline for Baltimore, according to Valery.

SAA/EVI was also selected by the Baltimore Development Corporation (BDC) to redevelop the Pigtown Library.
