Shoppers to Close at Southside Marketplace on May 28th
The Shoppers grocery store at Southside Marketplace in Riverside/Locust Point will be closing on May 28th. The 44,264 sq. ft. store has been for sale since 2019.
SouthBMore.com called the store and confirmed the closing date with its customer service department. Everything in the store is now 10 percent off, according to the Shoppers’ representative.
A popular grocery store chain will be taking over the location, but SouthBMore.com has not been able to confirm the name of the company on the record at this time.
UNFI acquired Shoppers’ former parent company, SUPERVALU, in October of 2018. Shoppers was started in Washington, D.C. and was acquired by SUPERVALU in 1999. UNFI is a food distributor and is transitioning out of the retail business after the acquisition of SUPERVALU.
In 2019, there were 36 Shoppers locations. Today, 20 locations remain open.
The Shoppers in Brooklyn Park is now a Lidl.
