Quickway Japanese Hibachi Opening in Locust Point

Maryland-founded, fast-casual chain Quickway Japanese Hibachi is opening a location at Southside Marketplace in Riverside/Locust Point. Quickway takes over a 2,400 sq. ft. suite last occupied by Sleepy’s.

Quickway is described as “a Japanese chain offering Teppanyaki fare served fast in a modern setting.” The menu offers hibachi plates with mixed vegetables and rice or noodles. Proteins include chicken, beef, tofu, salmon, and shrimp. “Add-ons” include chicken dumplings, shrimp tempura, and spring rolls.

The menu also has a selection of sushi rolls, poke bowls, and bento boxes that combine hibachi, sushi, and the add-ons.

Quickway will open every day at 11am for lunch. It will offer dinner hours, although the closing time has not yet been decided.

Quickway hopes to open its Southside Marketplace location in January.

Quickway was started by Japanese cuisine veteran Bob Liang who opened the first location in Gaithersburg in 2012. The company currently has 52 locations that are either open or have been announced.

Other locations planned for Baltimore City include Northwood Commons in Northwood and at Canton Refinery in Canton.

When asked why Quickway chose South Baltimore, Leonard Pick, a consultant for the company, told SouthBMore.com in an email:

We are in other areas of Baltimore and do very well. We feel Baltimore and Baltimore County could have another 15 Quickways. The restaurant likes to have surface parking because of carry-out and delivery. In Downtown it is hard to find those sites. Quickway trusts that Regency [the shopping center is a Regency Centers property] will always do what is necessary to make their properties perform well.

Quickway is the latest of three new additions announced for Southside Marketplace. Giant Food is taking over the former Shoppers and Regency Centers announced Five Below will be opening in an undisclosed space in the shopping center.

Regency Centers Senior Vice President Andrew Kabat told SouthBMore.com they are excited about all of the new additions.

Four suites are currently available at Southside Marketplace.
