The Paramount Baltimore to Open this Summer, Looks to Bring 220-Plus Shows a Year to South Baltimore
The Paramount Baltimore at 1300 Warner St. in Stadium Area is aiming to open next summer. The 70,000 sq. ft., 3,950-seat live music venue has been under construction since February. It is taking the place of a recently-demolished 91,744 sq. ft. brick building and warehouse on a two-acre lot.
The Paramount Baltimore is a partnership between The Paramount, which runs a music venue in Huntington, NY on Long Island, and the Horseshoe Casino owners CBAC, which is comprised of Caesars, Rock Gaming, and local developers Caves Valley Partners (CVP). The Paramount Baltimore was first announced in early 2016. CBAC purchased the long-vacant property in January 2019 for $4.8 million, according to tax records.
“From rock and blues to hip-hop and house music to standup comedy, The Paramount Baltimore will have something for everyone,” said The Paramount Baltimore Director Robert Goldstein in a press release. “We will not only be a destination for world-renowned touring bands but also a launching pad for great local and regional acts. Baltimore is an amazing source of untapped musical talent, and we are excited to shine the spotlight on its many fantastic performers.”
Goldstein said The Paramount Baltimore will initially have 135 to 150 shows a year and will eventually work up to 220 to 225 shows per year. He noted The Paramount in New York hosts 230 shows a year.
Goldstein said on days when there is not a show, restaurant and bar activity will still be open in the building. There will also be a private music club on the upper floors of The Paramount Baltimore that will host more intimate shows.
The Paramount Baltimore is using the tagline, “The Music Country Club.”
Goldstein says The Paramount Baltimore will be activated on Ravens game days and when M&T Bank Stadium is hosting other events.
The Paramount Baltimore will add a one-story brick retail building adjacent to the music club that will front Warner St. which CBAC is transforming into the entertainment-oriented development called The Walk @ Warner Street.
Goldstein said they will try to open the retail building around the same time the hotel opens at The Walk. The hotel is expected to start construction in about three years. Goldstein said the retail will likely be suited for restaurant/pub and merchandise-type users.
Baltimore will also get a boost in live music offerings when the under-renovation CFG Bank Arena opens in February.
Topgolf opened at The Walk last month. A renovated park along the Gwynns Falls Trail behind the Horseshoe Casino Garage also reopened in recent weeks.
Also planned for The Walk is the hotel and additional retail buildings. This includes a 30,000 sq. ft. bar with a placeholder name of Yards Social Bar which is marketed to replace an industrial building at 1301 Warner St. Horseshoe Casino Baltimore General Manager Randy Conroy told SouthBMore.com “an announcement should be coming soon” for this space.
