Giant to Open This Friday at Southside Marketplace

Giant Food will open its 44,264 sq. ft. store at Southside Marketplace in Locust Point/Riverside this Friday. Giant fills a space vacated by Shoppers which closed in May.

The grocery store will have “full-service meat and seafood departments, large produce, natural and organic selections, a full-service floral department, and extensive prepared food offerings, including a sushi bar and made in-house smoked meat selections,” according to a press release issued by Giant.

It will also offer free Wi-Fi.

Giant will not have a pharmacy, leaving a gap at the shopping center with the closing of Walgreens this week.

Giant will open at 6am on Friday and the first 500 customers will receive a free turkey and pie. The company is bringing more than 150 jobs to South Baltimore.

“Giant has served the Baltimore community for over 67 years, and we are thrilled to bring our customers an additional location to better fulfill their needs,” said Ira Kress, president of Giant Food, in a press release. “With our newest store layout, décor and expanded offerings, we are sure this new store will deliver on convenience, value and quality as a one-stop shopping experience.”

Giant is based in Landover, Maryland and has 169 stores in the region.

Additional tenants coming to Southside Marketplace are Five Below and Quickway Japanese Hibachi. The shopping center currently has four retails suites available for lease.
