Jerk Chicken at Sweet Home Jamaica

A friend of mine with parents born in the Caribbean told me about Sweet Home Jamaica in Brooklyn a couple years ago. I finally made a visit in recent weeks, and should not have waited so long to stop by. It was outstanding.

I got the jerk chicken lunch special over rice and peas. It also came with a soda for a total of $8.

If you love jerk chicken, you’ll love this dish. The chicken was juicy,  there was so much flavor (with a bit of spice) in the jerk sauce, and the rice and beans were great. I also got a chicken pattie which was so soft and flavorful.

Every time I drive south of the peninsula, I want to stop by Sweet Home Jamaica now. It was one of the best meals I’ve had in a while.

Burgers and Sides at Fat Patties

One of my kids’ favorite places is the new Fat Patties at McHenry Row. They love the burgers, mac and cheese, French fries, and milkshakes (…and the arcade machines!) I also really enjoy the burgers, so it is a win-win for everyone.

The burgers come single or double smash patty-style on a fresh brioche roll. You can order them however you like and choose from a variety of sides, including tallow fries and onion rings.

You can also choose from a large menu of draft beers and spiked milkshakes to wash everything down.

Pizza at Zella’s

Zella’s Pizzeria has been serving tasty pizzas in Hollins Market for many years and their pies are as good as ever. I got the 14-inch pizza with pepperoni on my last visit and it reminded me I need to stop by Zella’s more often.

The sauce is really flavorful and unique, the cheese is high quality, the pepperonis crisped up perfectly, and soft bread crust is delicious.

Tuna Wrap at Wiley Gunter’s

If you like ahi tuna you will probably be a fan of the menu at Wiley Gunter’s in Riverside (…and if you don’t like tuna, there are plenty of other great options). You can get ahi tuna in a wrap, in a stack, in a salad, on a sandwich, or by itself.

My latest selection was the ahi tuna wrap which has ahi tuna (seared rare), fresh avocado, mixed greens, and a cool wasabi ranch. I loved the combination of mild and spicy and the tuna was delicious as usual. The hand-cut Old Bay fries on the side were the perfect complement.
