The Last Penny in Locust Point Adds Indian-Fusion Food Menu
Locust Point cocktail bar The Last Penny, which celebrated one year in business in January, now has a kitchen and food menu. The new menu is “Indian-fusion” small plates.
The Last Penny is owned by cousins Dipal and Pratik Patel. Their families are from Gujrat, India and also spent significant time in Uganda and the United Kingdom. These different cultures shaped the food the Patels ate growing up and influenced the new menu offerings.
The Patels worked with Chef Bria Evans to create the menu. It features traditional American bar foods with an Indian twist. Items include Chaat Masala french fries; spiced Indian bread called aloo paratha; garam masala wings; pizzas on naan bread, including a chicken tikka masala pizza; and beef and chicken tacos with Indian spices.
The Patels spent recent months building out an all-electric kitchen in the back of the restaurant space.
Dipal Patel said The Pop Pop (old fashioned) have been the most popular drink at The Last Penny and noted the Not Your Father’s Folgers (espresso martinis) are also ordered often. The team at The Last Penny adds new cocktails with each season. The Last Penny also has a selection of wines and beers in cans and bottles.
The Last Penny is open Monday to Thursday from 430pm to 11pm, and Friday and Saturday from 430pm to 1am.
