‘Southside Marketplace Cleaners’ Relocates to McHenry Row, Changes Name
The former Southside Marketplace Cleaners relocated in recent months to McHenry Row in Locust Point. Now called McHenry Row Cleaners, the company had been at Southside Marketplace since 1988.
McHenry Row Cleaners takes over an approximately 2,000 sq. ft. space at 1614 Whetstone Way that was previously occupied by Harbor Lights Tanning Studio. Harbor Lights is relocating across the street in McHenry Row to a space previously occupied by Mr. Lee’s Dry Cleaning which closed last year.
Locust Point resident Patrick Tran took over the cleaning business in 2009, purchasing it from his uncle. He has seven employees working at McHenry Row Cleaners.
Tran noted “landlord issues” at Southside Marketplace and said he took about a year to make a decision about moving after meeting McHenry Row owner Mark Sapperstein of 28 Walker. Once he made the decision, Tran said Sapperstein was very helpful with the transition.
Tran closed his business on December 5th at Southside Marketplace and reopened on December 15th at McHenry Row after transporting the equipment on fork lifts. He noted there were many sleepless nights trying to get the new store reopened for his clients.
Tran is happy to have a new home for his business and said Locust Point is a “great community.”
The retail at McHenry Row is currently fully leased.
Southside Marketplace currently has six vacancies and two additional spaces becoming available for lease soon. A 9,200 sq. ft. Five Below will open at the shopping center in the coming weeks. A 2,400 sq. ft. Quickway Japanese Hibachi is also slated to open.
