The newly-formed Francis Scott Key Middle School (FSK) outdoor soccer team won the Baltimore City championship this spring. FSK defeated Graceland Park-O’Donnell Heights Elementary Middle School in the championship game.

FSK parent Warren Dungee was the head coach and Adam Heller, a guidance counselor at the school, was the assistant coach.

The roster consisted of Hudson Bailey, Dario Baldi, DiNero Blackston, Gabe Dungee, Keenan Fraser, Santos Gonzalez, Jude Leith, Miguel Marquez, Attman Patel, Mateo Phipps, Mason Ruhling, Aiden Tsang, Lasndon Tsang, and Jack Wunderlich.

FSK went 4-0-1 this season. The championship game ended in a 3-3 tie after regulation and FSK won 2-0 in penalty kicks. Attman Patel, Santos Gonzalez, and Dario Baldi netted goals in regulation and Dario Baldi and Mateo Phipps scored penalty kicks. FSK goal keeper Keenan Fraser was named the Finals MVP.

The FSK Season MVP went to defender Jack Wunderlich. Game balls awarded during the season went to Aiden Tsang, Jack Wunderlich, Mateo Phipps, and Keenan Fraser.

This was the first year for the middle school outdoor soccer league in Baltimore City since before the COVID-10 pandemic. Dungee said FSK Athletic Director Jason Venezia-Walterstein was instrumental in getting it restarted. Four schools participated, including FSK, Graceland Park-O’Donnell Heights Elementary Middle School, Lakeland Elementary Middle School, and Bay Brook Elementary/Middle School.

Dungee thinks the league will grow and have more teams next year.

A total of 35 kids tried out for the FSK outdoor soccer team with 15 making the final roster. Of these players, three will be heading to high school next year.

Dungee noted that FSK has a lot of “very talented” 7th graders, including players who were not on the team this year.

FSK had two indoor soccer futsal teams this winter.

FSK will field U15 and U13 outdoor soccer teams for the Charm City Games at Patterson Park on the week of July 10th.
