Great Plates of Late Around South Baltimore
Soft-Shell Crab Sandwich at The Local Oyster
Soft-shell crab sandwiches are not for everyone, but they are definitely for me. If you like a good soft shell, keep an eye out for this sandwich at The Local Oyster in Riverside/Locust Point. I got it on a recent trip and it was a really delicious crab with a perfectly crisp breaded skin. I savored every bite.
Combo it with some crab soup, steamed shrimp, or raw oysters and you’ll have the ultimate Baltimore seafood experience.
Spicy Red Miso Ramen at Dashi
Dashi is a new ramen stall at Cross Street Market in Federal Hill. I’ve had ramen at a handful of places over the years and my experience at Dashi was one of the best.
I got the Spicy Red Miso Ramen. It was a pork broth with red miso paste plus ramen noodles, soy egg, Chasu pork, seafood, and scallions. The broth was bursting with flavor, the noodles were tender, and the toppings were good. My family members couldn’t stay away from my bowl. We will be back.
Chicken Dumplings at Blowfish Poke
The poke bowls are great at Blowfish Poke, but while I was looking for a side for my Dashi ramen, I got the steamed chicken dumplings from Blowfish. They were really soft and full of flavor.
They also came with side salad that was a nice complement.
Buffalo Chicken Wrap at Wiley Gunter’s
The last time I sat at the bar at Wiley Gunter’s in Riverside, I saw the kitchen staff breading chicken tenders and I knew I had to try them soon.
During a recent dinner trip, I got the Buffalo Chicken wrap. It included the house tenders smothered in Wiley Gunter’s Buffalo sauce, romaine, cheddar jack, and ranch, which I opted for over blue cheese. The tenders were great, the Buffalo sauce was awesome, and the rest of the ingredients were a perfect pairing. Of course, the side of Old Bay fries were on point as always.
Wiley Gunter’s also had an Arnold Palmer-infused sour ale on draft that was delicious.
Sticky Ribs at Docks on the Harbor
The new Docks on the Harbor at Power Plant at the Inner Harbor has a large menu with many enticing items. I had quite the feast on a recent visit and enjoyed all the plates I was served.
One that really stood out were the Sticky Ribs. The meat fell off the bone, but it had a nice crisp on the outside with a very unique sticky sauce that was sweet, savory, and a little bit spicy. Really good!
Crab Cakes at G&M Restaurant
Going slightly outside South Baltimore to Linthicum in North Anne Arundel County, I finally got a chance to judge the hype around the crab cake at G&M Restaurant. Let me just say: The hype is warranted and it might not even do these cakes justice.
My first bite of the crab cake was heaven. Like a typical Marylander, I’ve had a lot of crab cakes, but something about this one just made it unique. The crab meat was large and the entire cake was really tender. There was just something about the combo of spices and ingredients that was slightly different from any other crab cake I’ve had before, and I loved it!
