Velleggia’s Closes at Cross Street Market in Federal Hill

Italian restaurant Velleggia’s closed last month at Cross Street Market in Federal Hill. This concept from The Liliahna Hospitality Group revived a longtime in restaurant Little Italy. It opened in a 2,000 sq. ft. space in the market in November of 2022.

Brendon Hudson of The Liliahna Hospitality Group gave the following statement to

“The decision to close was personally difficult for me but it was clear that the location was not a good fit for a restaurant like Velleggia’s. The revenue projections we expected just never materialized and we didn’t see any sign of that changing. It is our hope that Velleggia’s can one day reopen and that, in the meantime, my family’s restaurant will live on in the memories of those who dined at Velleggia’s over these past many decades. It’s been our privilege to serve our customers and we appreciate their loyalty and support.”

A spokesperson for the company said “all of the employees of Velleggia’s were offered positions at one of The Liliahna Hospitality Group’s other ventures: Liliahna Luxury Catering; Allora in Mount Vernon; Piccola, Allora at Johns Hopkins University in Homewood; and Zander’s, located in the Alex Brown Building on E. Baltimore St. in Downtown Baltimore.”

Velleggia’s was the second tenant in the space since the market opened in 2019.

The tenant mix at Cross Street Market continues to change as HK A Seafood Joint closed last month while Dashi Ramen and Theo’s Rolls and Bowls opened in recent weeks.

There are currently three vacant stalls in the market.
