SoBo Cafe Adds a Liquor License
Federal Hill staple-restaurant SoBo Cafe now has a liquor license. SoBo Cafe owner Anna Leventis worked with the District 46 delegation of the Maryland Legislature to pass a bill that allows restaurants in the district with a beer and wine license to upgrade to a liquor license if an application is approved by the Board of Liquor License Commissioners for Baltimore City (BLLC).
Leventis took over SoBo Cafe 12 years ago and the restaurant had only served beer and wine drinks until the new liquor license was activated in early August. SoBo Cafe was approved for this upgrade by the BLLC with letters of support from three neighborhood associations in and around Federal Hill.
Leventis told SouthBMore.com she has been working on this for several years and she’s excited to be able to finally serve cocktails. She noted popular cocktails at SoBo Cafe so far have been the Honey-Jalapeno Margarita, the Grapefruit Mint Crush, and The Right Word with gin, elderflower liquor, Lillet Blanc, and lime juice.
The new cocktail menu also features espresso martinis, Palomas, French 75s, and old fashioned cocktails.
SoBo Cafe is in the process of adding more shelving behind its bar. Leventis said they might extend their hours by a bit in the fall to allow patrons more time at the bar. The restaurant is currently open Monday to Thursday from 4pm to 9pm and Friday and Saturday from 3pm to 930pm. It is closed on Sundays.
SoBo Cafe used to serve lunch and weekend brunch, but since COVID-19 and the following labor shortages, it is now just focused on dinner.
SoBo Cafe still has many of its go-to menu items such as chicken pot pie, Korean short rib, burgers, steaks, and Greek appetizers, as well as popular new items including the Salmon Nicoise Farro Bowl, Peruvian chicken, and an everything-seasoned pigs in a blanket appetizer, according to Leventis.
