‘Miss Twist’ Opening an Ice Cream Shop in Locust Point

Popular local ice cream truck Miss Twist is opening a brick-and-mortar shop in Locust Point. The business first announced the news on a Locust Point Facebook group last week.

Miss Twist will be opening at the approximately 750 sq. ft. retail space at 1433 E. Fort Ave., which sits just feet from Francis Scott Key Elementary Middle School.

The space is currently occupied by Southeastern Roastery, which will close by the end of February and move to a warehouse where it will focus on its coffee roasting and distribution.

Miss Twist is owned by Don and Tammy Radtke. The company’s multiple trucks can be seen riding through South Baltimore almost every day and are a staple at local community events. The business also has ice cream shops in Essex and Havre de Grace.

Miss Twist makes soft-serve ice cream and gourmet ice served in cones, sundaes, milkshakes, floats, gelatis, and more.

In its social media post, Tammy Radtke said, “I was hoping to be there many years ago but I guess was not meant to be,” referring to the Fort Ave. location. When she found out it was going to be available again, she spoke with the owner “two minutes later.”

The post added that they are “so very excited.”

From a Baltimore Banner article:

She [Tammy Radtke] plans on opening the storefront a month or so after she takes over a space Feb. 1 at 1433 E. Fort Ave., which is currently occupied by Southeastern Roastery Coffee Lab. The community has served as a second family to Radtke, who does not live in the area, but says she’s become “like a neighbor” to the customers that chase after her truck.

They often call in the morning to ask her when she will ride through, Radtke said.

“I have people that have been coming to the truck since they first dated … now they’re having me come to their weddings,” she said. “I think we’ve served three generations in Locust Point.”
