The MLB All-Star Game Could Be Returning to Baltimore

The Major League Baseball (MLB) All-Star Game could be returning to Baltimore this decade, according to USA Today baseball insider Bob Nightengale. Oriole Park at Camden Yards has not hosted the All-Star Game since 1993.

From Nightengale:

The Toronto Blue Jays, Chicago Cubs, and Baltimore Orioles are the favorites to host the All-Star Game in 2027, 2028 and 2029.

There are 30 MLB teams. The Orioles have not hosted the All-Star Game in 31 years, so it’s past due for the game to return to Baltimore.

The MLB All-Star Game is a multi-day event including the All-Star Futures Game, the All-Star Legends and Celebrity Softball Game, and the Home Run Derby, in addition to the actual All-Star Game itself. There would also be many festivities around Downtown Baltimore if the All-Star Game returns to the city.

The Orioles have a new 15- to 30-year lease at Oriole Park at Camden Yards which unlocks $600 million in taxpayer-financed bonds for stadium improvements. This funding was authorized last year by the Maryland General Assembly.

The team will also have a new controlling owner, Baltimore-born billionaire David Rubenstein, in the coming months. Rubenstein has an estimated net worth of $4.6 billion. Other billionaires in the ownership team include Mike Arougheti and Michael Bloomberg.

Rubenstein also wants to invest in real estate around the stadium. He said in a statement, “Importantly, the impact of the Orioles extends far beyond the baseball diamond. The opportunity for the team to catalyze development around Camden Yards and in downtown Baltimore will provide generations of fans with lifelong memories and create additional economic opportunities for our community.”
