La Cité Development, the team developing the Center\West development in Poppleton, announced a deal this week with NVR Ryan Homes to add 180 housing units to the neighborhood. The $60-million investment will include 132 townhomes and 48 condo units on seven acres.

La Cité has been planning the Center\West development since 2006 and completed construction on two apartments buildings totaling 262 units in 2019. The company is also planning a seven-story, 165-unit senior housing building at 999 W. Saratoga St.

The $800-million master plan for the development includes 3.2 million sq. ft. of new construction and 1,800 new housing units on 32.94 acres in Poppleton.

The NVR Ryan Homes housing will feature a mix of studio to two-bedroom units, as well as duplex units, with residential parking. Homes will range from $300,000 to $500,000.

Renderings show three-story brick townhomes with pitched roofs, and a four-story condo building with a mix of exterior finishes.

There are many vacant lots in the Poppleton community and La Cité has not announced what lots the development will take place on.

The community is also home to original rowhomes, new townhomes, the Poe Homes housing complex, Francis M. Wood High School, Mother Mary Lange Catholic School, the University of Maryland BioPark, and the Edgar Allan Poe House & Museum.

The development is expected to break ground in quarter three or four of this year.

“We have a real sense of pride around this next chapter of home ownership in our fast-growing Center\West community, especially one that includes teaming up with such an established partner as NVR Ryan Homes,” said Dan Bythewood, president and co-founder of La Cité Development, in a press release. “Offering a diverse range of housing options, exceptional amenities, and convenient proximity to nearby educational and medical institutions, are just a few of the numerous benefits of living in Center\West.”
