Under Armour Releasing Spandex Alternative Called NEOLAST Next Week

On May 13th, Under Armour will premier a new material called NEOLAST™, which the company describes as a “high-performing” alternative to spandex (elastane). NEOLAST will debut with the new Vanish Pro tee, which will be available on Under Armour’s website.

The technology for NEOLAST was developed at Under Armour’s innovation labs in Baltimore and through R&D activities at the company’s innovation center at North Carolina State University.

Under Armour  hopes NEOLAST “will address key sustainability challenges of elastane, including recyclability and solvent-use.” NEOLAST will support Under Armour’s goal to “eliminate spandex in its products 75% by 2030.”

The company describes NEOLAST as a “light, stretchy, breathable, and fast drying material.”

“We took a minimalist approach to the design of this shirt, eliminating distractions for the athlete and opting for classic lines that allow the NEOLAST material to shine,” said John Hardy III, senior director of product at Under Armour, in a press release. “The Vanish Pro tee’s durable material will not only increase its lifespan, it will offer consistent fit and stretch throughout the garment’s life. We’re proud to have developed the first apparel with this innovation and are excited about bringing more performance garments that utilize the future of stretch to athletes everywhere.”
