‘Miss Twist’ Ice Cream Shop Opens in Locust Point

Popular local ice cream truck Miss Twist has opened its brick-and-mortar shop at 1433 E. Fort Ave. in Locust Point. Miss Twist takes over a  750 sq. ft. retail space, which was previously Southeastern Roastery, just feet from Francis Scott Key Elementary Middle School.

Miss Twist is owned by Don and Tammy Radtke. The company’s multiple trucks can be seen riding through South Baltimore almost every day and are a staple at local community events. The business also has ice cream shops in Essex and Havre de Grace.

The new Miss Twist has a interior ordering counter designed to look like the facade of one of the ice cream trucks, and an ordering window on the side of the building. The side of the building, which faces an alley, has two metal tables.

The side of the building has always been pink and turquoise, the same colors as the Miss Twist trucks.

Miss Twist makes soft-serve ice cream and gourmet ice served in cones, sundaes, milkshakes, floats, gelatis, and more. In addition to the cherry and mango gourmet ice flavors on the trucks, the Locust Point stop has added cotton candy, watermelon, blue raspberry, and egg custard.

The Locust Point location of Miss Twist is open 12pm to 10pm. The trucks can still be heard riding through Locust Point.

In its social media post announcing the new shop, Tammy Radtke said, “I was hoping to be there many years ago but I guess was not meant to be,” referring to the Fort Ave. location. When she found out it was going to be available again, she spoke with the owner “two minutes later.”

The post added that they are “so very excited.”
