A Baltimore City Recreation and Parks’ (BCRP) project called Federal Hill East Slope Repairs is set to begin this month.

Riprap stones were added to the east slope of the park in 2019 as a temporary repair after a large mass of soil slid down the hill and damaged the sidewalk. Now the permanent repairs are set to begin.

From a BCRP spokesperson:

The project is set to start this month and should take about 4-6 months, depending on the weather. It will include slope stabilization, storm drain work, and pavement, concrete, and sidewalk repairs. Residents will see minimal impact, with limited parking at both ends of Warren and E. Hamburg.

‘Federal Hill Park supported by SHR’ posted more information about the project in October:

We’re excited to share that earlier this month the City awarded the contract to permanently repair the east slope of Federal Hill Park!

What does this cover?

This will remove all the rip rap stones on the side; bench the hillside to create a more gradual slope; add new grass; and make curb, concrete walk, and guardrail improvements for Warren Avenue and E Hamburg St dead end areas.

How will this impact parking/traffic?

There should be minimal disruptions and no roads will be closed for this project. This will take up a few parking spaces on Covington Street for construction access.

How much does this cost?

The contract award is for $454K to complete this project. Information about the contract is publicly available on the City Board of Estimates site. This project is RP23885.

Thank you to Baltimore City Recreation and Parks, Councilor Eric Costello, and the Board of Estimates for getting this important project fully funded!
