The new Rash Field Park opened Wednesday following an $18-million Phase II renovation. The 5.3-acre section of the park had been under construction by Plano-Coudon for the past 14 months.
The renovated park offers pickleball and beach volleyball courts, an outdoor fitness zone, expansive lawns, landscaped gardens, terraced seating, a nature walk, and an urban beach. A new plaza additionally provides space for outdoor concerts, events, and community programming, while more than 200 newly-planted trees provide shaded areas throughout the park.
The volleyball and pickleball courts are currently open for open play. VOLO will begin running leagues on the volleyball courts in Spring 2026.
Baltimore Beach Volleyball operated beach volleyball leagues at Rash Field for 25 years before relocating to Copper Union in Mount Washington.
The Phase II redevelopment was made possible through $14 million in funding from the State of Maryland and an additional $4.5-million commitment from the City of Baltimore.
“Rash Field Park is becoming the kind of waterfront park Baltimore deserves, a place where you can play a game, work out, spend time outside with your family, enjoy live music or simply sit by the water,” said Dan Taylor, president of Waterfront Partnership of Baltimore, in a press release. “What makes this opening especially meaningful is that so much of what people will experience here grew out of what Baltimoreans told us they wanted from their waterfront. Today, we get to welcome them into a park built for them.”
Phase I of the renovation opened in 2021 following a $16.8-million redevelopment that added Jake’s Skate Park, the BGE Pavilion, and the BGE Nature Play area.
The Rash Field redevelopment was planned and designed by Mahan Rykiel.
Rash Field Park was built at the south shore of the Inner Harbor in 1975, and Waterfront Partnership has been working on plans to redevelop it for the last couple of decades. It originally served as a sports stadium for Southern High School.
