Rehabilitation of the Hanover Street Bridge Still Years Away as Funding Has Not Been Secured

In June 2018, a two-year, $1.8 million study was completed that recommended a $50 million renovation of the 104-year-old Vietnam Veterans Memorial Bridge, often referred to as the Hanover Street Bridge. Additional National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), Army Corps of Engineers, and US Coast Guard studies are required before construction can begin, but those have not started as Baltimore City Department of Transportation (DOT) has not secured funding for the project.

The recently-renovated building at 2701 Manokin St. in Westport now has a new tenant. Big Dog Core Supply Inc. signed a lease and will be moving to the 15,000 sq. ft. building. The business is relocating from a 4,000 sq. ft. space in the Carroll-Camden Industrial Area.

Efforts Underway to Connect the BWI Trail to the Gwynns Falls Trail

MedStar Harbor Hospital, Greater Baybrook Alliance (GBA), and South Baltimore Gateway Partnership (SBGP) are teaming up on an effort to connect the BWI Trail in Anne Arundel County to the Gwynns Falls Trail in Baltimore City. The Gwynns Falls Trail currently ends just south of MedStar Harbor Hospital’s Cherry Hill Campus and a spur of the BWI Trail currently ends at W. Maple Rd. near N. Camp Mead Rd. in Linthicum Heights.

Trash Wheel Being Added to the Gwynns Falls to Help Keep Litter Out of the Middle Branch

The Gwynns Falls trash wheel will be the largest trash wheel ever built. It will have a grappling arm to help move large debris and a canopy covered by 72 solar panels. It will use solar and hydro power to turn a water wheel that powers a series of rakes and a conveyor belt that will lift trash from the water and deposit it into a dumpster barge.

Obituary: Kevin M Vaught, Sr. “ButterBean”

Kevin was a Police Cadet  from 1981- 1983 followed by his dedicated service to the people of Baltimore as a Police Officer.  He retired in 2015.  During his time as a Policeman, Kevin made a substantial impact on the community and all he came in contact with.  He is notably remembered for earning the Award for Heroism with a “V” for valor, when he selflessly entered a burning building and rescued the occupants.

Former South Baltimore Community Officer Kevin “ButterBean” Vaught Dies of Cancer at the Age of 57

Officer Kevin “ButterBean” Vaught was a popular fixture around South Baltimore during his 18 years working in the Baltimore Police Department (BPD) Southern District. Officer ButterBean passed away on Thursday after a battle with stage four liver cancer at the age of 57. He was diagnosed with cancer in March 2018 and was undergoing treatments at Johns Hopkins Hospital.
