GoFundMe Set Up for Fallen and Injured Baltimore City Firefighters
A GoFundMe has been launched by Baltimore Fire Fighters Local 734 to raise money for the families of the three Baltimore City firefighters — Lt. Paul Butrim, FF Kelsey Sadler, and FF Kenny Lacayo — who died on Monday morning battling a fire in Mount Clare. The fund will also benefit FF John McMaster who was injured and is now listed in stable condition.

‘University of Maryland, Baltimore’ Opposes the Elimination of the Baltimore Police Mounted Unit
Last month, the Baltimore City Council voted to strip Baltimore Police Department’s (BPD) Mounted Unit of its $533,735 yearly budget. This move was supported by City Council President Brandon Scott, who recently won the Democratic primary for mayor, and Mayor Bernard C. “Jack” Young said he would let the cuts stand. Opposition to this decision is growing in Southwest Baltimore where the Mounted Unit was slated to move into a new $3.5-million facility. The latest to voice its opposition is the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB).

Mount Clare Junction has been sold to Carlyle Development Group, a private real estate equity firm based in Purchase, NY. The 15.71-acre, 234,036 sq. ft. retail and office complex in Pigtown sits within a block of Hollins Market, Mount Clare, and Union Square.

A&C Pack and Ship Opens in Union Square
A&C Pack and Ship opened this month at 1400 W. Lombard St. in Union Square. It is owned by Calvin Orr and C. Nicole Orr who bought the 3,642 sq. ft. building in February and renovated its storefront and four apartments.

Rebranded Price Rite Marketplace Debuts in Pigtown
The Price Rite at Mount Clare Junction in Pigtown was rebranded as Price Rite Marketplace and hosted its grand opening on Friday. The 38,843 sq. ft. grocery store stayed open during the transition as the space was being remodeled.

New Sign Installed in the Mount Clare Neighborhood
A new “Welcome to Mount Clare” sign was installed earlier this month at the roundabout median at S. Mount St. and Wilkins Ave. The new sign project was led by the Mount Clare Community Council in partnership with Southwest Partnership (SWP) and Image 360 Baltimore Downtown.
