Community Cookout to Support Steuart Hill Academic Academy on Thursday at Union Square Park
The SAVESHAA Coalition announced that they will host a Community Cookout on Thursday, March 16th from 2:30-5:30pm to promote joy and celebrate Steuart Hill Academic Academy (slated to close June 2023) during a hard time for the school and its families and students. The cookout will be held in Union Square Park directly across from SHAA and will have cookout food and drink, activities for kids and a space to celebrate.
37th Annual Union Square Cookie Tour of Historic Homes on Sunday
The famous Union Square Cookie Tour of Historic Homes began in 1985 as a fall house tour, where residents greeted scores of visitors from all over the Washington-Baltimore region.

Ethiopian Restaurant and Apartment Building Project in Union Square Still Moving Forward After Fire
A four-alarm fire last Monday damaged seven commercial buildings, three of which are now demolished, on the 1500 block of W. Baltimore St. in Union Square. Three of the four remaining buildings that still stand are part of project to bring Ethiopian restaurant Jabena and six apartments to the block. That project at 1515 to 1519 W. Baltimore St. is still moving forward.
Seven Union Square Commercial Buildings Damaged in Fire
On Monday afternoon, Baltimore City Fire Department (BCFD) was on the scene of a four-alarm fire on the 1500 block of W. Baltimore St. in Union Square which damaged seven commercial buildings. Of the seven, a partial collapse occurred in three of the buildings and one building fully collapsed. BCFD reported no injuries and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
Mixed-Use Development Planned for Hollins Street in Hollins Market
Development firm SAA/EVI is planning a mixed-use development on the 1200 block of Hollins St. in Hollins Market. The property is comprised of a vacant lot and a 1940 art deco garage at the corner of Hollins St. and S. Carey St.

$12-Million Opportunity Center Planned for Former Gelato Factory on Baltimore Street
The 33,000 square foot facility for West Baltimore Renaissance Foundation will have a commercial kitchen to support food initiatives. Other plans include a teaching kitchen, classroom, computer lab and community gathering space, and office space for nonprofits.

Southwest Partnership Opens Office at Former Littlepage’s Furniture
Southwest Partnership moved into its new office building at 1317 W. Baltimore St. in Union Square/Franklin Square in July. The nonprofit organization is a coalition of seven neighborhood associations and six anchor institutions in Southwest Baltimore.
Culinary Incubator and Event Space Planned for West Baltimore Street in Union Square
Siblings Ashley and Kenneth Watson are planning a culinary incubator and event space at 1411 W. Baltimore St. in Union Square/Franklin Square. The Watsons have acquired the vacant three-story, 4,500 sq. ft. building and will be completing a $350,000-renovation. The building will be called Project 1411.

Orioles to Open Oriole Park at Camden Yards at 25% Capacity This Season

Lowe’s Announces $2 Million-Commitment to Southwest Baltimore for Repairs and Workforce Development
The three-year project, which represents a commitment of more than $2 million,will include completing critical home repairs for 45 homeowners, increasing workforce development efforts and improving local recreation centers, parks and green areas.
