Construction Begins on New $12 Million-Plus Animal Services and BARCS Facility, Topgolf Plan Progressing

Construction began a couple weeks ago on a new $12 million-plus, 37,400 sq. ft. facility for the Office of Animal Control and nonprofit Baltimore Animal Rescue and Care Shelter, Inc. (BARCS) facility at 2490 Giles Rd. in Cherry Hill. Animal Control and BARCS are relocating from 301 Stockholm St. in Stadium Area, and will make the move early next year.

Federal Hill Main Street Launches Daily Street Cleaning, Adds Cross Street String Lighting, and Begins Sidewalk Repairs

These include a new five-day-a-week street cleaning crew, string lighting along the unit block of E. Cross St., sidewalk repairs and power washing, and new plantings around the business district.

SHR’s “Campaign for the Train” raised $55,000 for foundation work and the newest playground piece that replicates a B&O engine and dining car. The green and gray piece features a slide and areas for toddlers to climb and sit. The train was designed and built by Playground Specialists.

Last year, due to a gate valve failure that led to electrical damage, the pool didn’t open until August 11th. Grant and Volunteer Initiative to Bring Improvements to Riverside Park Pool This Year

Improvements are coming to Riverside Park Pool this summer thanks to a $49,500 grant from the South Baltimore Gateway Partnership (SBGP) and a volunteer effort from Riverside Neighborhood Association and residents in the South Baltimore community. The initiative is being called “Splash City Riverside Pool” and will be a multi-year project following this first round of improvements.

DPW says the cans have several advantages including their ability to confine litter and prevent it from overflowing, keep rodents away, and transmit data that lets DPW staff know when trash needs to be picked up. The large, black cube cans have a Baltimore City seal, a “Keep Baltimore Clean” panel, and a currently-vacant space for advertisements.
