Make a Difference: Local Non-Profit is Looking to Recruit Committed Volunteers to Mentor 5th through 8th Graders in Baltimore
Higher Achievement is preparing for the launch of two new After-School Academies in October 2012, and is currently recruiting volunteers who are interested in making a difference in the lives of underserved youth in Baltimore. In return for giving two hours a week on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday, volunteers receive the rewarding experience of making a lasting impact on a young person’s life.
Volunteers receive extensive training and support from a full-time, on-site Manager of Instruction. There is pre-service training, as well as routine development throughout the duration of the program.
Mentors need only come prepared with a commitment to impacting the academic skills, attitudes, and behaviors of middle school students, and an openness to being transformed by their scholars!

About Higher Achievement:
Higher Achievement’s rigorous afterschool and summer academic program gives youth from at-risk communities their best opportunity to succeed in middle school — and in life. Higher Achievement has served more than 10,000 middle school youth in the Washington, DC area since 1975, helping them achieve success in school and beyond. The organization’s strong record attracted national attention in recent years, resulting in investments that launched a national expansion beginning in Baltimore in June 2009. The national expansion continued in 2011 with the launch of a new affiliate in Richmond, VA, and in 2012 with a new affiliate in Pittsburgh, PA.
There are three Achievement Centers in Baltimore: Collington Square Elementary/Middle School in East Baltimore, Arundel Elementary/Middle School in Cherry Hill, and Lakeland Elementary/Middle School in South Baltimore.
