Locust Point-staple J. Patrick’s Pub will be offered at auction on January 10th by AJ Billig & Co. Auctioneers.  The pub was opened in 1987 by Joseph Patrick Byrne, who passed away last July after a battle with cancer.  The pub was recently named the #31 best bar in Baltimore by The Baltimore Sun and has long been popular for its authentic Irish feel and live Irish music.  Here is a quote from Governor Martin O’Malley, whose band played at J. Patrick’s Pub after the passing of Byrne, in The Baltimore Sun:

“It was a real gathering place for the Irish-American community of Baltimore, and it had the feel of a rural country bar, the type you find outside of Dublin. It was both warm and inviting,” said Gov. Martin O’Malley.

“And Joe was a very hospitable man with a big smile. For years, he cared for his sick wife and he cared for the people of the neighborhood,” he said.

J. Patrick’s Pub announced on its Facebook page that it will close at the end of the year with their final night being their New Year’s Eve celebration.

The property available for auction at 1367-1371 Andre St. has a total of 4,500 square feet and includes the bar and a 7-day liquor license, as well as three apartments.  The bar includes all kitchen equipment, memorabilia and furniture.

Here is the description from AJ Billig & Co. Auctioneers’ listing:

1367-1371 Andre Street is located in the Locust Point neighborhood, home to the famous Under Armour headquarters, Domino Sugar, Phillips Seafood and so much more.   Situated on the south side of the Baltimore Inner Harbor, and just east of Federal Hill and Riverside Park, this tight knit community has undergone a major transformation.  The newly constructed Silo Point mega-million dollar condominium building is located directly behind J Patrick’s Pub.  As major investment in the community has poured in, the neighborhood has retained much of it’s flavor and charm.  Locust Point is located just minutes from I-95 and the Downtown business district.  J Patrick’s Pub has been family owned and operated since 1987 and has received national recognition as a true and authentic Irish Pub.

Hopefully a buyer can be found that will carry on the long tradition and legacy of J. Patrick’s Pub.
