South Baltimore Development Updates (Photos)

With an abundance of construction underway in South Baltimore, let’s take a look at some of the progress.

Horseshoe Baltimore Casino

Baltimore’s first casino, Horseshoe Baltimore, is under construction in between Warner and Russell St. in the Camden Carroll Industrial Area. On track to open late summer/early fall of 2014, the $400 million construction project is making great progress. The 4,000-car parking garage is nearing completion, the exterior of the casino is really taking shape, and work is underway inside.

2 East Wells 

The new South Baltimore development on Wells St., which will feature 153 apartments, 6,000 square feet of retail, and a 260-car parking garage, has been under construction since July 2013. The former McCall Warehouse has been demolished, the parking garage has been constructed, and the apartment and retail portion of the building is rising form the ground, ranging in height from two to four stories at this point.

Camden Crossing

After a multi-year delay, construction has resumed at Pigtown’s Camden Crossing. Two new buildings featuring 13 new townhomes were recently completed, making 129 of the 150 homes in the project finalized with another seven homes nearing completion. Camden Crossing is looking to finish the community in its entirety by end of this year.

1200 Ward St.

Habitat for Humanity of the Chesapeake’s 1200 Ward St. in Pigtown is moving along as brick is being installed on the front of the homes and interior work is moving along. First deliveries are expected this spring. Most of the homes will have three bedrooms, two bathrooms, and be approximately 1200-1300 square feet.

Riverside Wharf

The Riverside development on Key Hwy. and Lawrence St. is under construction and making great progress. The exterior is nearing completion, the interior isn’t far behind, and sidewalks are are currently being installed. Walgreens will be occupying the main floor of the property and will be opening in early May. MedStar Health has additionally leased more than 25,000 square feet, which will include a MedStar PromptCare. Their facilities are expected to open this summer.

Offices at the Pabst Castle

The Pabst Castle at 1834 S. Charles St. is under construction to become boutique office space, and exterior restoration is back in progress. The owners of the property are currently working with designers to plan the interior renovations.

The Townes at Marshall Green

Construction is underway on five new-construction townhomes at 40 East Randall in South Baltimore. The footers have been laid and the homes are almost completely framed.

111 Heath Lofts

Renovations have begun on the Raffel building for a 59-unit luxury apartment development called 111 Heath Lofts.

Other Updates

-Key’s Overlook, a community of 53 new-construction townhomes surrounding Silo Point in Locust Point, is starting to make progress as footers are being installed on the first phase of homes.
-The redevelopment of three rowhouses in Locust Point at 1371 Andre St., which was formerly the home of J. Patrick’s, is nearing completion. A new Irish pub called In Like Flynn will be opening in the restaurant space.

-Three new construction townhomes are underway on the 1700 block of Marshall St. The footers are currently going in.
-Preliminary construction has begun on Banner Field, a new turf recreation facility at Latrobe Park.

-Construction is underway on a new-construction single family home at 1417 Webster St.
-There is also great progress on a new-construction townhome home at 64 E. Heath St.
