Large Mural Underway at 1400 Warner St. Near Horseshoe Casino Baltimore
The City of Baltimore is looking to beautify the area around Warner St., which is home of the new Horseshoe Casino Baltimore as well as several other warehouses. As part of this process, the City contacted the The Baltimore Office of Promotion & The Arts to complete two murals at 1400 Warner St. This street consists of a long building with two sections: a three-story building, which is home to the Gameday Warehouse, a bar open during Ravens home games, as well as a studio for an artist named Cleatress; and, a one-story section, formerly the home of the Second Chance Antique Store.
The property is currently owned by Linda Warheim and Second Chance leases the building and functions as the property manager. A liquor license transfer has also been submitted to the Board of Liquor License Commissioners for Baltimore City (BLLC) for the property under the name “Baltimore Sports Bar.”
Two teams of artists were selected for the project: Richard Best, Stefan Ways and Pablo Machioli, who collectively go by the name of Section 1, will complete the three-story building, and Jessi Unterhalter and Katey Truhn will complete the one-story building. The Section 1 team is also behind a proposal to turn a three-acre site near MICA into the world’s largest urban art park.
The murals have been underway since last week. The three-story building features a large Oriole nest, as well as a large hand, a mountain top, a mountain climber, and clouds. The one-story building features large, colorful designs and shapes.
Additional art projects along Warner St. are currently planned, but none have been confirmed at this point.
