Jazz + Soju to Host Grand Opening this Thursday at Anthem House in Locust Point

Jazz + Soju is hosting its grand opening this Thursday at Anthem House at 900 E. Fort Ave. in Locust Point. The 2,310 sq. ft. Korean restaurant has been in a soft opening for the last few weeks.

Jazz + Soju is a new restaurant concept from Baltimore resident Michelle Min, who also owns a restaurant called Roosterspin in Westfield, New Jersey with her sister. Just like Roosterspin, Jazz + Soju will serve Korean double-fried chicken, which earned rave reviews in The New York Times. The wings, drumettes, and drum sticks are fried twice in soybean oil to dissipate the fat. The chicken is then hand-brushed with housemade sauces, either hot and spicy or soy garlic, or a combination of the two.

“My goal is to introduce new Korean dishes to Baltimore and offer great comfort food like I serve to my family,” said Min in a press release.

Along with Korean double-fried chicken, Jazz + Soju serves starters such as Kimchi Fries, Fried Oysters, and Big Bang Shrimp; salads; rice and noodle dishes including Bibimbap, Kimchi Fried Rice, and Seafood Yaki Udon; shared plates including Tuna Tatami and a Chicken Waffle Cone; and signature dishes including Fire-Beef Bulgogi and marinated short rips in the Sizzle La Galbi .

Min will also highlight Soju, which she says is the most popular and most representative liquor in Korea. She plans to infuse Soju with a variety of flavors and fruits to make the alcohol smoother and tastier. She will also create individual specialty Soju drinks for customers.

Jazz + Soju has a bar and seating for more than 100 and will be open for both lunch and dinner. Min describes the space as hip and industrial with thousands of jazz records lining the walls.

“I want to show people that you can enjoy really good food that doesn’t stretch the budget,” said Min. Rice & Noodle plates and Signature items range form $13 to $25.

After the grand opening, Jazz + Soju hours will be Sunday from 1130 am to 9 pm; Monday through Thursday from 1130 am to 11 pm; and Friday and Saturday from 1130 am to 2 am. Lunch will be served from 1130 am to 230 pm Monday through Friday. Happy hours with discounted drink and food specials are 3 to 6 pm Monday through Friday.

Jazz + Soju will also host live jazz performances on the weekends. These performances and other events will be posted on the restaurant’s Instagram page.
