Waterfront Partnership of Baltimore press release:

The Waterfront Partnership of Baltimore announces the return of the Inner Harbor Ice Rink for the 2019/2020 winter season, thanks to the Joseph & Harvey Meyerhoff Family Charitable Funds.

“The tradition of Baltimore’s Inner Harbor Ice Rink has brought thousands of people downtown during the winter season, and it’s a huge win for Baltimore that the Joseph & Harvey Meyerhoff Family Charitable Funds recognized how important the rink is to its residents and families, and to tourists who visit the City,” said Laurie Schwartz, president of the Waterfront Partnership.

This one-year grant for $115,000 allows Waterfront Partnership to continue to operate the rink while developing a long-term plan that ensures the rink remains open for years to come.

“Given the rink’s success over recent years and the importance of preserving these kinds of programs and community gathering spaces in the City, we were happy to be part of the solution,” said Elizabeth R. “Buffy” Minkin, president of the Joseph & Harvey Meyerhoff Family Charitable Funds. “We hope our willingness to help becomes an example that others follow.”

The Inner Harbor Ice Rink sponsored by Joseph & Harvey Meyerhoff Family Charitable Funds will return to the top of the Amphitheater between the two Harborplace pavilions at Baltimore’s Inner Harbor beginning November 1, 2019 – just in time for Baltimore Office of Promotion & The Arts’ Brilliant Baltimore Festival of Light and Literature. The rink will remain open until January 20, 2020, complimenting many seasonal and holiday activities along the waterfront including the Christmas Village at West Shore Park, the City’s New Year’s Eve Spectacular and more.

“I would like to thank the Joseph & Harvey Meyerhoff Family Charitable Funds here in Baltimore for providing this great opportunity to our community,” said Mayor Bernard C. “Jack” Young. “The ice rink is an excellent way for people to enjoy our wonderful Inner Harbor during the cold winter months. I can’t wait to see our friends and families out there on the rink enjoying themselves this winter.”

The Inner Harbor Ice Rink has welcomed more than 65,000 visitors over the past four seasons and played host to a number of events including Skatefest benefiting Special Olympics of Maryland, Skate with Santa, Superhero and Princess Skates, as well as several marriage proposals, various group rentals, and celebrity appearances.

Details on the official grand opening, programming and pricing for the 2019 season will be announced this fall. The rink will once again be managed by Magic Ice USA.
