Federal Hill Liquor License Swap

The neighborhood of Federal Hill in Baltimore City has been known for its bustling restaurant and bar scene for close to a quarter century. This competitive retail industry has caused the availability of liquor licenses surrounding the Cross Street Market area to become scarce. Recently, the area surrounding the Market (known as Voting District 23-001) has witnessed several license “swaps”; transferring licenses from one building within the district to another. Due to the large concentration of people and bars in this part of town, some of these transfers have become controversial.
