Big Ravens and Soccer Updates from Dick Cass

I caught an extremely informative interview with Ravens Team President Dick Cass on WBAL radio today with Keith Mills and Pete Gilbert.  Let’s break down some of the very interesting things they talked about.

English Premier League Soccer Match Confirmed

Though it is not breaking news, the July 28th match featuring Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool at M&T Bank stadium is now official.  The game will take place at 1pm, while the Orioles will host the Athletics across the parking lot at 7pm.  Anyone who attends the soccer match can get a $10 ticket voucher for the Orioles game.

I wrote an extensive article about the enormous opportunity the soccer match presents for Baltimore as the MLS has been eyeing Baltimore for relocation, potentially DC United.  Coincidentally the match will be going head to head with an AC Milan vs. Chelsea match at FedEx Field on the same day.  So this could be a serious competition between DC and Baltimore to show who has the best support for Soccer.  I am yet to see a time for this match, but soccer fans may get a chance to see 4 European teams in one day if the game in Prince Georges County is scheduled in the evening.

Ravens Uniforms Will Not Change

It appears athletic apparel companies are having a competition to produce the ugliest uniforms possible lately.  Oregon, Maryland, Boise State… you’ve all seen them, and our neighbors in Locust Point are a big culprit.  Nike is taking over the uniform contract next season and I’m sure some of you saw the hideous uniform concepts that Nike leaked last year.  Thankfully the Ravens Uniforms will not be changing according to Cass.

Call me old school, but nothing looks better than traditional uniforms like Alabama, Texas, Oklahoma, Notre Dame and more.  I often see uniforms that make me cringe these days…. the Broncos and Cardinals of the NFL come to mind.  The Ravens have a good look, and thankfully that won’t be changing.  Many of us just saved $75 from not having to go out and buy a new Jersey next season.

Ravens Will Host 3 Public Practices

This year came the news that Westminster would no longer be the permanent home of Ravens Training Camp, but it appears they have a new strategy for reaching out to the fans in the metro area.  The Ravens will have at least one practice at M&T Bank Stadium, and they are close to reaching a deal for a practice at Navy Marine Corps Stadium in Annapolis.

The third practice is still up in the air.  Westminster would be a logical guess, but the stadium at McDaniel College is currently undergoing a large renovation.  Don’t be surprised if the third location is on the Eastern Shore or Southern Delaware as the Ravens have recently launched a marketing campaign in both regions.  Towson University would also be a logical guess, but we should find out very soon.

Ravens not Likely to Play in London

Each of the past few years, the NFL has hosted a game at Wembley Stadium in London.  One easy way to secure a trip  to London is for the Ravens to give up one of their home games.  “That will never happen,” Cass told WBAL.  The Ravens have one of the top two home records in the NFL this century, and are coming off a 9-0 2011 campaign at home.  St. Louis has agreed to be the home team in London the next 3 years, and since the Ravens played the Rams last year, that eliminates the chances of a Ravens game across the pond in the near future.
